I've tried turning these sellers into eBay but they just say they will investigate and I can hear their cash register ker chinging in the background.

It's sad.

It is sad, you would expect a pro-active measure on ebay for anyone selling software licenses, they must make more checks confirmation of address, etc. so if there is any sale of illegal licenses it allows for legal action. Either that or they are almost condoning it.

It isn't as if the punter can do much having been taken for a ride, if they leave negative feedback it can turn nasty, contrary to what ebay says about you needn't fear leaving negative feedback.

So it really has to be buyer beware.

Problem is that these pirates get very little negative feedback. I can't figure out why.

I think many people simply don't notice that the licenses are pirated/illegal... :-\

Others ignore it... they are happy if the software works and that they didn't pay much...

Unfortunately some who find that are ripped off blame avast because the program doesn't work.

In my case I bought the license not intending to use immediately. Accordingly, since I did receive it I posted pos feedback.
I am interested in seeing what the seller has to say. Supposedly, when you use PayPal your money is protected.

I realized it was a case of buyer beware. In the past I have bought a fair number of AVs when a sale with rebates is offered and it ends up costing the buyer nothing. He then sells on ebay and whatever he gets is profit. Those are normally box copies or at least a CD.

While I will not buy a pirated copy if I know it, I do like to take advantage of legitimate savings. I once bought a 4 year license for F-Secure. No one seemed to have heard of a 4 year license, but it was genuine as proven by the FS support folks who had to give me a site to download an OEM copy.

Evidently the Avast Support folks were not interested in looking into this. I sent them a copy of the sales email which contained the seller's "name" and other information.

Regards,
Jerry
