What a croc of shit

I am getting so tired of this whole "Anti virus" empire. You download all manor of software and updates and it never really works. Most likely anti virus software companies are actually manufacturing the viruses in many cases I think.

So my gripe is that I downloaded and installed Avast, with all the extra gubbins. Now what I would like to know is how my email got hijacked by some fishy Chinese Electrical retailer, all my contacts list were spammed by me etc, when I have the Avast email prootection of high setting that supposedly scans all incoming emails for malware?

Wonder what would happen if it was on low setting!

Do you want to post a HijackThis log, maybe someone can narrow it down for you.
Where did you download your copy of Avast from?
What were you using before Avast?
What other security software is running?

Frankly, I think Avast is as good as any of them, and better than a lot. It's right up there.
The reality is that thousands of new malware applications are made, every day. No one blacklist-based application can catch them all.
I understand the frustration, but the only companies that are releasing viruses (etc) are the manufacturers of rogue products.

Just because you have an anti virus scanner running, it does not mean your PC is safe.

You can have all the protection in the world but a pc will only be as secure as the user makes it.

Surfing habits and what you do with your pc all have an influence on its security. Using p2p apps like kazaa, visiting porn sites, not keeping your operating system updated, poorly configured firewall....................

"You download all manor of software and updates and it never really works"

You sound like one of those people, no matter what they do its never their fault?

Its too easy to blame the software.

Maybe you should ask the question,

 what am i doing wrong?

What steps are you taking to keep your pc secure?

Are these steps adequate, how can i improve?

This has been debated several times. In these days where tens of thousands malware samples are spawned daily, i think companies have better things to do than write new malware lol.
