New Linux version soon too?
« on: September 08, 2009, 06:46:51 PM »
Hi.
Do you expect a new release of the Linux workstation version too?

Can we expect a change in the way updates are done?
It seems the whole database is downloaded each time in the present version. (no incremental updates)

Best regards,
François

It does not seem, it's, unfortunately, how it works, i.e., full database is downloaded each time.
Hope they change to incremental updates soon.

Hallo,
if you are eager to get incremental updates, one beta-package was posted here months ago. But, VPS internals have changed recently, new updates use different approach, so, the 400.vps-incremental style will stay for Linux (while windows will use the new one).

Thanks.
Do I correctly understand that Linux still won't use incremental updates and we'll need to download the whole database each time?

Best regards,
François

No.
Linux will probably use the present style of incrementals (as you know it from Windows), but Windows, starting with Avast5, will use something completely different (and incremental too, of course) :).

I'll check if I can find that beta then.

Are you talking about pulse updates?
What will change?

Hallo,
the whole VPS changed fully in Avast5 - its format, memory placement, incremental update algorithms, encapsulation... pulse updates will be just small add-on :).

But still in the distant future all the avast version (for windows, linux or mac) will use the VPS format introduced in avast 5 right ???
