Free Avast not enough Quota boot time scanner xp.   On another computer.  I installed xp and added service pack 3.   Plenty of space and memory.

What services needs to be enabled in services.msc for the boot time scanner to work? I think one of my protection software may have disabled stuff that Avast needs to work at boot time.

I have a suspicion it is one of the files in Service pack 3 that may be the problem and not your software.    I thought it might by Dep,  it wasn't.  The only other thing I can think of,  is Acpi was not installed, when xp was installed.

I don't have a problem with XP Pro and SP3 and I ran Windows Worms Doors Cleaner without a problem.

I have DCOMbob.exe, Unpnp.exe and shootthemessenger.exe

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) then install it then update it and run a Quick scan:

Thank you.  Just to see I did a clean install of xp and then installed sp2.    Same error message at boot.   When starting windows xp on that machine,  Avast takes forever to load.

I was reading about boot switches
I have my drives in 4 partions.
So,  how would you show
For example,  you want to scan drive C: and Drive D: through scan, plus scan in archives then if infection is found move to chest (not system files).  Then tell it to ignore the system memory.

Did Avast increase the system memory requirements from the last full release?
That possible the reason.   

The reason I got Avast was because of the boot scanner.

What is the new system memory requirement for Avast?   My system I installed xp on is a Pentium 3.    The speed is 500 mhz but some software dont see that speed, it is reporting a lower speed than it really is.  I tested it out to confirm that is actually 500 mhz.

That is strange.   My memory is 128 mb.    I hope my memory is not going bad.

128MB RAM is enough to load Windows98 but hopeless for XP.

I had an XP Home system that had 512MB RAM that I purchased back in 2002 and it still works well but now its as slow as a week in jail.

The figure is 'free memory,' that which is unused by other things.

256MB is considered the minimum for winXP if my memory (excuse the pun) serves me well. upgrade your RAM to a minimum of 512MB and you should notice better overall system performance to now. Better still 1GB and you can kiss goodbye to RAM issues on XP for the most part.

Memory is really inexpensive now so you should take advantage it will really make a difference.

According to Microsoft 64mb is the minimum, 128mb is recommend.   A lot of software says that including Avast.    Now,  if more is required,  it should say that.    I just bought xp sp3.    My system can only support 512 (Either slot-no mandatory slot) total.

Firefox 3.5.3 is a memory hog but I think that is a bug.

My current system runs pretty fast. I know how to tweak things, I had xp before on another computer, and I was able to run a boot scan with an older version of Avast, sorry I don't remember the version. This old machine had 128 mb.  In fact,  most OEM with the original xp had only 128mb installed.

I am not saying you are wrong.   I am not sure you are correct,  if it was just me getting the error message,  then I would say yes.  A lot of people are getting that error message for different reasons.   I just have to wait to see what happen with avast 5
