And I see the one who provides free version is really worried now and has already started advertising against msse by saying "Microsoft will likely push MSE out via every automated channel available to them—which in and of itself poses all sorts of interesting anti-trust questions"

It is known that the European Commission(EC) is considering forcing Microsoft to bundle rival browsers alongside IE in the Windows OS. It is likely that this is based on a complaint filed by Opera which condemned Microsoft for browser monopoly and urged Microsoft to follow fundamental and open Web standards.

Symantec must be hurting after Vincent Steckler left to join avast! and AVG is loosing out as its reputation is falling rapidly.

A number of replies to this article on its forum. Mixed opinions.
A fairly good one here, about 3/4 down page one:

(Author Barmaglot) Funny that the ones that don't care about MSE happen to make good products (ESET, Avast), while the ones dissing it are making bloated crapware (Symantec, Grisoft). At least Symantec isn't complaining about MS pushing their solution through existing channels - with 60-day trials of Norton being preinstalled on pretty much every brand name computer these days, that would take some nerve.

Well done Avast team and CEO for a mature response to the article.

 avast's CEO made a very nice response, not a complement nor a bash to MSE. The choice of words are pretty neat too.

Where did you read/listen that?

Symantec has a very poor answer as usual. From a security perspective, this Microsoft tool offers reduced defenses at a critical point in the battle against cybercrime. Unique malware and social engineering tricks fly under the radar of traditional signature-based technology alone—which is what is employed by free security tools such as Microsoft's" . It just not only bash MSE as say the other free antivirus hasn't the same level of them. C'mon...

ESET thoughts are ridiculous too. We would imagine MSE will hold great appeal while making the freeware market more competitive. And not the paid market? C'mon again. Makes no sense just saying the problem will be at the free market or a price competition.

Will AVG sue Microsoft for trust? But it raises a good question: massive use and exploits in a huge database of users. Indeed a problem to think. Experts agree that the biggest nemesis to Windows was not the vulnerability of its code but rather the popularity of the operating system.

Congratulations Vince: 250 million are using avast! or one of the other high-quality free products. You're seeing the market, not only avast. We're proud to have you as a CEO.
