Outpost Firewall Free or PC Tools Firewall Plus
« on: November 19, 2009, 06:17:11 AM »
Hello. I have tried both firewalls, and I'm currently using PC Tools. PC Tools is definitely simpler, with a lot less alerts, but Outpost has HIPS, a behavior shield, and a URL blacklist which Avast 5 Free won't have. I was wondering which of the two you recommend I use. I'm not the most advanced user yet, since I'm still in college to get a computer science degree, but I have enough experience to handle Outpost I think. Thanks.

Hi BrandonN2008,

I installed PC Tools Firewall Plus recently. The firewall is running perfectly and plays nice with Avast, MBAM and other programs. It is lightweight on system resources and very easy to use.

Perhaps some of the more experienced users could shed some light on the robustness of the PC Tools Firewall Plus.

After many years of using ZoneAlarm, I finally made the switch and am very happy until now.

Hope that helps!

I think you know why my vote would go from my signature ;D

Though I don't know where you got the Outpost Free functions form as they seem to differ from what Agnitum say (http://free.agnitum.com/compare.html), HIPS and behaviour shield are basically one and the same thing.

I just switched back to outpost from pc tools because pc tools was not liked by my computer because it was forced to do a disk scan at every upstart.

What kind of a scan where you asked to do and where did the scan notice come from ???

Good point. I have never been asked to do a disk scan after installing PC Tools Firewall Plus.

Perhaps a corrupt installation or damaged hard disk?

@Mikaelrask: Stämmer det? Jag skulle bekymra mig lite.........

It's just strange that out of all of us who use PCTools Firewall, this is the first time I've ever heard of a complaint like that.
I personally have it installed on 4 separate computers and have never seen such a message.

Translate: I was thinking that it might be hard but after I change the order, I have not had that problem so think that it is not hard drive, but could be wrong on the disk is between 2.5-3 years old so may be on its last verse or so is there anything with PC Tools firewall there.
