Avast hangs up on initial scan...
« on: November 28, 2009, 06:46:26 PM »
Im a Macbook user. Downloaded current trial version 2.74 for Mac. First scan hung up same place. Had to force quit and tried again and again it hung up same spot. The file it stops in is SyncServices/local/clientdata/lots of numbers/recordsids.syncidmap..
My details. Mac OS X Vers. 10.4.11 Tiger 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Wireless internet DSL

Also, the scan so far has uncovered many "err 13" in file name window what does this indicate. All buttons in the upper window all grayed out except Virus Chest. Is that normal?

Thanks for you help. I did a search for this in the forum and didnt come across any of my problem/questions.

Hallo,
this was answered here already - err 13 is normal, not all files are accessible from the user's point of view (you are on unix-like system).
Hanging scan is caused by some very-long-path in your tree, but latest engine should have all this fixed - just try it:

basically:

1) quit the application entirely (menu -> Quit avast! antivirus and Agent) -
when grayed out, go to Preferences and uncheck "persistent mode" option.
2) download this http://public.avast.com/~cimbal/md82.zip (Safari will unzip
it automatically, com.avast.MacAvast.MAD will appear on your Desktop)
3) in finder, go to Application, ctrl-click on Avast!, choose "Show Package
Contents", go to Contents, then Resources, and copy the file there.

Done. Now, avast! will use the latest engine. Please, move mouse pointer
above the VPS xxxxxx-x in the left right corner - engine version 0.0.82 must
be shown - if not, you didn't copy the file, or you didn't re-start the app
properly.
