Downloading Software For A New Pre-Bundled PC
« on: January 28, 2010, 07:35:41 PM »
I am considering the purchase of AVAST Internet Security 5.0 software for a new H.P. Pavilion Notebook PC, which has Norton Security software pre-installed and ready to activate. I would rather use the AVAST Antivirus/Antispyware software, and realize that the Norton Security AV/AS software might conflict and needs to be removed prior to installing another AV/AS software. However, is it safe for me to remove the bundled Norton Security pre-install first, and then access the AVAST website to download the AVAST Internet Security 5.0? Would this leave my PC vulnerable to worms and trojans without any protection, prior to downloading and installing the AVAST software? Or is it possible to purchase an initial protective DVD directly from AVAST instead of downloading their software from the internet?
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!

Visit the avast website now http://www.avast.com, and download the product that you want to your desktop.

Then, visit this site, and download the norton removal tool to your desktop: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then, remove norton with the standard add/remove programs in the control panel.  You'll probably need to reboot.

After reboot, run the norton removal tool.  Might need another reboot.

After that reboot, double-click on the avast setup program that you downloaded to your desktop, install, and enjoy!
