Is the free version 5 a stable release or this still beta testing?
My free 4.8 shows no update available.

Stable. Just uninstall 4.8 and download from avast.com avast 5.

Add/remove on Windows quite sufficient.

I have 5 installed and the free version is working fine under windows 7.
