Avast 4.8
« on: February 06, 2010, 07:20:16 PM »
Anyone else decided to stick with the Avast 4.8?

Call me stubborn, but I'll pass on the Avast 5.0 update and stick with my 4.8 avast Pro. I'm a firm believer in the saying if it's not broke, don't fix it.  My Avast pro 4.8(along with pro malwarebytes/SAS) runs excellent on both my desktop and Laptop and I haven't had any problems these past 12-14 months.

Then the same would be true of avast 4.5, but it is called progress and avast 5, especially in the Pro version offers much greater protection than 4.8 Pro.

Whilst some have experienced some problems they were in the minority (not that this makes it any less painful for those experiencing it), but many of the issues in the initial 5.0.377 have been resolved in 5.0.396. Some MBAM Pro/paid users are reporting problems, but not all and those that are find disabling the resident protection resolves the problem.

I know you paid for MBAM to have the resident protection but something is conflicting (I don't know what), but I do know that with 5.0.396 with MBAM resident protection will give greater protection than 4.8 Pro with MBAM resident protection enabled.

Also, it has been reported on these boards that support for 4.8 will probably only go on until mid 2010. There is no fixed date for it yet, but sometime this year, your updates will stop.

If you've paid for the pro version, why not upgrade to version 5 pro? You can get the license file converted, and carry on until it runs out before paying for a new license.
