Well crashing is likely to leave something behind, but that has nothing to do with housekeeping as you mention if it crashes whilst scanning that won't complete and won't clean the temp folder.
I don't want avast do housekeeping when it crashes. I want that it do after some time of it, don't letting behind the dumps that are useless for 99.9% of the users. If they want the information, collect the dump (as MS does).

We aren't talking about dumps here but the unpacked files in the _avast5_ folder as far as I'm aware the dump files you are talking about are in the <avast5> folder and have a file type of .hdmp or something like that as I don't have any of those either, but I can recall them in avast 4.8.
