« on: February 25, 2010, 05:06:21 PM »

when some of the shields detects a thread it displays a notification popup. BUT what is if this is missed or want to see/read old entries? There should be log file somewhere???
In my case now I am interessting for the log file for the Web Shield... last week it detects2 times something, in the statistic graph I see this events but nothing more, no details

are there any logs?

Hi cska133,

The most simple way to pull up the log, would be to go to the actual shield, and on the bottom right you will see 'Show Report file'.

Clicking that will bring up the report file so you can see it.

The most recent entries are at the bottom.

ProgramData is a hidden folder...

It should.

On mine, I can see when I first got avast! 5 and used Eicar to test...All recent alerts are there.

Have you changed the 'Expert Settings' --> 'Report File' options?

Besides the Devs, I don't know...

At a guess, it could be to do with if there are any errors, it may report the error code maybe...and zero means it is ok, but that is just a guess...

I too believe that it means the action completed successfully, that action being abort connection.

The reason I think that is windows file system error code 0 = The operation completed successfully.

Scott,
I have the "Show Report file" option only on the Mail shield and the Network Shield. It isn't on the File System shield or the Web Shield. Is that normal, or do you have the option on all shields?

Edit: Forget it, finger problem - I had the report generation turned off on those shields.

@David,
 Thanks for the clarification/explaination.
Typical windows, even sucessful actions are errors ;D

@Olddog,
Mine has that button there on all shields.
I thought maybe it may be that logging is disabled, but when I disable logging, the Button is still there just inactive...
wonder why you don't...

...wonder why you don't...

In the shields where it wasn't showing, under Expert Settings->Report file there was no tick in the Generate report file box. When you change this you need to close the Avast interface and reopen it for the Show Report file button to either appear or disappear, which ever is applicable. Now if only I could remember why I turned off the report generation on those shields......

You're welcome, that however, depends if it is using the standard windows file system error codes ;D

Olddog,

I wasn't aware of the need to restart the GUI, that makes sense though :)

back to the report log.

I think it doesnt make sense the way the log file looks like.
If I just want to know what exactly was reported from the shield without to know the date, then I have to do a biiiig search through the entries in the file >:(
Is there a way to have report only for the relevant things such a threads?
