Avast and Windows Mail
« on: March 05, 2010, 07:56:12 AM »
Hi all
I am new to this forum.
My problem started when I got this new laptop 3 years ago so I have never used Windows Mail.  I would like to start but the mail will only download spasmodically.
Sending emails is not a problem
The sound will come to say that mail has arrived and when going to the windows mail tab there is nothing there.  If I close Avast the mail comes through without problems.
My Laptop is HP and started off with Norton anti virus which I removed with the removal tool.  The operating system is Vista Home Premium.
Hoping someone will be able to solve this problem for me
Thanking you in advance

If you haven't used Windows Mail and want to start anew with a mail client, then I'd recommend Thunderbird instead of Windows Mail.
After setup (with a really excellent wizzard), make sure to go to account settings, server settings and dissable ssl / tls (also in the smtp-server part, found at the very bottom of the left side menu)

My account is Vodafone which is my IP all the settings are correct.
I have found that the only time mail appears to download is on opening the program. Maybe its just a faulty install from new
I think I will take the advice and get a new mail client.
Thanks for your time
