HJT Log.. help need to remove O1 hosts please
« on: March 14, 2010, 03:29:08 PM »
Hi All :)

I am trying to fix my sister in law's laptop as it was running silly slow and obviously bugged up to the eyeballs! I downloaded and ran malware bytes anti malware and it found 921 bad files! I also installed avg. The computer is running a billion times better but there is still a problem that i cant seem to sort out. Whatever it is will not allow me to connect to anything google. Could someone have a look at the highjackthis log below and tell me what I can do to rectify this problem? I know I've got to deal with the host files starting with O1 but am unsure how to.

Thanks in advance,

Debby

Navigate to windows' host file and rename it to hosts_infected- Windows will create a new clean file.

If the internet connection is through a router, make sure the router has a secure password, or its DNS settings may have been changed too.

This may be some host file problem....
Have you also tried running

Superantispyware www.superantispyware.com
Hitman Pro 3 - Second Opinion Malware Scanner http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro

and can you post the Malwarebytes log file ?
if big, down in left corner: additional options > attach

Thank you both for your replies, unfortunately neither suggestions got rid of the malware. I ran spybot and it found

Fraud.WindowsProtectionSuite  11 entries

Microsoft.Windows.RedirectedHosts 210 entries

When I click to fix the problems it says - 'Unexpected error in fixing problems (cannot create file "C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" Accessis denied)

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks very much

Hi Debby lets try this

Download OTL  to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
/md5start
eventlog.dll
scecli.dll
netlogon.dll
cngaudit.dll
sceclt.dll
ntelogon.dll
logevent.dll
iaStor.sys
nvstor.sys
atapi.sys
IdeChnDr.sys
viasraid.sys
AGP440.sys
vaxscsi.sys
nvatabus.sys
viamraid.sys
nvata.sys
nvgts.sys
iastorv.sys
ViPrt.sys
eNetHook.dll
ahcix86.sys
KR10N.sys
nvstor32.sys
ahcix86s.sys
nvrd32.sys
symmpi.sys
adp3132.sys
mv61xx.sys
/md5stop
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s
CREATERESTOREPOINT
%systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav

  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Could you attach both text files to your next post (it is under additional options)

Here we go - this will delete the host file and then create a new one.  I will also remove some other nasty bits

 Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

Code: [Select]
:OTL
O1 HOSTS File: ([1980/01/04 00:40:52 | 000,006,946 | RHS- | M]) - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
O3 - HKLM\..\Toolbar: (no name) - Locked - No CLSID value found.
O27 - HKLM IFEO\taskmgr.exe¨: Debugger - svchost.exe (Microsoft Corporation)
[2010/03/14 12:33:08 | 000,001,189 | ---- | M] () -- C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts_infected-
[2010/03/13 23:27:27 | 000,000,000 | -HSD | M] -- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\111e4fd

:Commands
[resethosts]
[purity]
[emptytemp]
[EMPTYFLASH]
[Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

Thank you so so very much!  :-* I can access google again and the little lappy is running like a dream!

I have attached the file as requested. Is there anything else you can see or am I all done?

Thanks again! I really appreciate it.

No that looks good now - run OTL, hit the cleanup button and it will uninstall itself
