App Configuration Incorrect

I just downloaded Avast for the first time. After installing, I clicked the icon on my desktop and it read:

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.


Ive now Uninstalled and REinstalled about 3 times now, but I'm still getting the same response. Any ideas as to how to fix this? Any help is much appreciated because Im really started to get frustrated. >.<

What happens if you try repair and reboot ?

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

If this does not work

what antivirus did you have before installing avast ?
have you uninstalled it before you installed avast ?
have you run the removal tool for that program to remove alle traces and reboot
