Avast No 5 Firewall
« on: March 20, 2010, 12:14:41 PM »
Hi ,     I have just installed the above and have received a message "Firewall not switched on". When trying to correct this received another message " Firewall not accessable". Any suggestions please?

More info, please.

You installed Avast 5 Internet Suite?
Your OS?
Any other security software installed?
Any other Firewall?

Did you reboot after installation?

Another Avast 5 Firewall doubt

Does anyone know why Avast Firewall don't switch off Windows Firewall by default when you install Avast?

Do I need to turn on the Windows Firewall as well as Avast?

Don't they cause compatibility issues? :o

I had read somewhere (don't ask me where...), that it is advisable to turn off Win firewall on all Win versions prior to Win 7.
On Win 7, there is no need to, because something has changed in the Win firewall.

Anyway, I don't think the win firewall is needed if you use AIS firewall.

However, the above said, on my XP system I have the AIS firewall installed and up plus the win firewall and no problems whatsoever.

@ Zyndstoff

Most other security suites and firewall just turn it off by default if it is unnecessary....

Thanks for your info.

Yes, I know what you mean. I'm still wondering about that too.
But as I don't see any problems, I'll just leave it on with my machine - without really knowing if it is necessary or not.  ;D
Strictly following the rule: if it works, don't try to make it work better.
