Notebook drivers - problem
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:33:28 AM »
Hi!

Could you please tell me what is missing here? I think I installed all there's to be installed, but it seems I'm wrong... Any idea?

Thanx! :)
Intel Core i7 Q 740 @ 1.73 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1, Avast! Free Antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free version) and Sandboxie (paid version).

I'm in no way an expert but i think in order to help, the members of the forum will require the name and model of the laptop in order to determine what Hardware came along with it.

For instance I have an HP DV 2755TX with the following specs
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443336&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=ru&cc=ru&lang=ru&product=3668243

Also the manufacturer provides generally all the drivers you might be missing
Computer Systems:

Intel Pentium 4 641 / 2GB RAM / Vista Home Basic SP2 / avast! 5.0 Home / SAS Free / MBAM Free / Windows Defender / Windows Firewall / Spyware Blaster/ Secunia PSI / Firefox 3.6 / Opera 10.5

Core2Duo T8300 / 4GB RAM / Vista Home Premium SP2 (32 bit version) / Same Software.

Looks like you missing chipset drivers and finger print reader drivers.
I suggest you go to your notebook manufacture and download missing drivers.

Or try to use the cd/dvd that came with your notebook to find and install the missing drivers.

The Chipset driver was the first one I installed. I didn't install fingerprint software because I don't need it. I looked on the company's website and on the drivers CD, but I don't know what else should I install. Here are notebook's specs: Lenovo 3000 N200 - Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz - 1,0 GB RAM - Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family - Windows XP (fresh copy)
Intel Core i7 Q 740 @ 1.73 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1, Avast! Free Antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free version) and Sandboxie (paid version).

The drivers for the Hardware listed by harman123 can be found on the web link I posted.

If you have other hardware installed after you have bought the computer then that means you have to look for the CDs that came along with that component. Otherwise it appears any driver you might need can be found on the manufacturers support site.

Cheers

And u might want to buy an app that can scan ur computer and provide a list of drivers that should or could be updated like Driver Detective---cause even if u have the CD with original drivers, they will be out of date and it's a pain to go to all websites for each mfr's drivers.

That might be of help - if you want to update anyway. I very seldom update any HW-drivers as long as the system works. Why should I - there is no visible gain in performance normally. So I only update if it is a security update or a new feature is added and I want to use that.

Just saves time and it's a pain going thru mfr's list and while the HW driver updates may not provide any increase in speed/performance, I figure there's a reason for the update and have no way of knowing whether it will increase speed or performance---The SW driver updates are also provided by these apps and they change a lot---especially my graphics adapter stuff

well, had some good, but also some very bad experiences with that...
i fully understand zyndstoff's opinion! never change a running system, if not needed! ;D

well yes but u can end up with the same problems by downloading from the mfr's website--take Creative Media Source and the Sound Blaster Audigy ZX or whatever--never ever let them do that intelligent check for drivers cause u may lose your sound forever----I knew of that problem before using my app and so never update those drivers--but I know I don't have issues with the others---I was lucky--a microsoft tech did all the work free to determine why and how I lost my sound capability as there was some kind of warranty for service pack 3 at the time--he could look into my computer from offside and it took 3 sessions
