HELP - A virus has adbucted my computer
« on: April 02, 2010, 03:46:33 AM »
I downloaded the free home protection for my kid's computer and the day that it expired we got a virus that will not allow me to access the internet or download any software.  I tried downloading Avast to a disc and installing it via safe mode but that did not work.  I do not need any data that is stored on this computer but I have no idea how to wipe it and start fresh without paying someone to do it. I'm sure it can be done, but HOW???

I tried this, but it does not want to boot from cd drive.  I made sure the settings were to boot from cd drive, but still wouldn't let me do it.

Grrrrr.

Did you try System Restore?

Or SR in Safe Mode?

Or SR in Safe Mode with Command Prompt?

do you mean reformat and fresh install?

if you have the cd of operating system, and a complete cd driver of your computer. you can do it for yourself.

just insert the os cd and reboot. press (CRTL-ALT for old computer),f2, f10 or f12 to access the boot option

set cd-drive as first boot.

Regards!!!
