It could be both, so please post some more infos about your system.
You can also download and run free Mbam here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Thanking you for your prompt reply.
Ran scan as suggested, found nothing.
Information regarding my computer is as follows: Microsoft windows XP home edition version 2002 service pack 3. MERCURY  EL 2700  VIA Nehemiah 1.00Hz  224 of RAM. My wireless connection is Vodafone mobile broadband network adapter(HUAWEI) PREPAID.
I don't think I was correct when saying I have no viruses, have since found in my chest, and am not sure what to do with them.
Kernel 32.dll  C:\WINDOWS system 32   Last changed:22/03/09  Transfered time:24/02/10

Wsock32.dll  C:\WINDOWS system 32   Last changed: 14/04/08  Transfered time:07/04/10
The system had a previous owner, and I received it in February.
I also downloaded a program called DRIVER FETCH, I've uninstalled through remove programs, but still cant get rid of. Same problems with BEARSHARE.

Try Revo Uninstaller (free) to remove the problem programs: http://revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

You are rather low on RAM, maybe you want to expand that, it would fasten your system. ;)
What you found in chest is left from an earlier version of avast (these are no viruses), which will be removed by the new version 5.0.507. To update to the new version you can do a manual update in the avast UI. :)
