Avast doesnt start up?
« on: May 11, 2010, 04:52:02 PM »
Hi!
Just formated my computer and Hard drive and was gonna install Avast.
So I downloaded Avast Free and installed it.
I rebooted as prompted.
When starting the computer it starts this menu thing where you can choose to scan and update and stuff,
but it says my computer is "unprotected" because of that the program has been stopped or is in "inconsekvent" phase(i dont know how to spell it in english, sorry)

At the top it says UNPROTECTED and has a button saying fix now (or something)

Theres also a button "start the program" (which is obviously what the program wants me to do to protect my comp)

Anyways both these buttons does the same thing, when clicked, brings up one of these questions if I wanna start the program (from vista) and I press yes and nothing happens.

What shall I do?

Any other security program that could interfere?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it.
5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
7. Check and post the results.

If tech's method doesn't work,

Try this:

1. Download avast v4 and v5 latest setup files.
2. Remove avast 5 completely.
3. Reboot and install v4.
4. Install v5 over it, Reboot.
5. Post back to let us know if it worked.

Tech, seriously, Idk. :-X

I have tried installing avast 5 on many computers (family and friends) but almost all have failed - I mean failed to start. But tried installing on v4 and all have succeeded. Including my system.

So I really dont know..  :-\

I dont know.

Its true that v5 installed from scratch didn't work but did work when installed on v4 - in many cases.
