Hi i have a virus on my laptop thats terrible and i need to run the boot time scan to see if that will work but it says that it only works for 32-bit systems. i have windows vista and was wondering if there was anyway that i can get around that or somehow change something so i can do a boot-time

No. There isn't a workaround.
I suggest:

1. Clean your temporary files.
2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
3. Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
6. Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
7. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
8. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
9. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

Boot time scanning on x64 is scheduled for avast 5.1 (but it will take months...).
Meanwhile, you can try avast at logon time.

hi sickie,

I dont think the the boot scan is available for 64bit vista. Whats the name of your virus?

you can try malwarebytes, download the free version, be sure to update the program before you scan. Here's the link

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

if you cant download it, go to safe mode with networking and try. Please post the log so we can see what was found and if your clean.

and here's a good second opinion scanner...click the free version as well, update and run the scan

good luck
