Experiences with Soluto
« on: June 18, 2010, 04:06:49 PM »
I'm beta testing Soluto: http://soluto.com/
It's a boot time monitor (like the old BootVis for XP, do you remember?  ;) http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/BootVis.shtml).
It can give you a graphical view of what is making your boot time slower.
You can remove entries, you can receive help. It has a history of your boot times.

I used the old bootvis in XP and didn't find it that useful. Hopefully you will find it more useful.

What I wish more is that it does not become a shareware in the future.
That bothers me most: freeware that become shareware and you've tested it for them ::)

But there is a lack of configurability... How could you disable it? It's always running, each boot...

I now see that I can not stop it at each boot.  :(

It does not hinder system performance that I can tell.

I've got two BSODs, I don't know if their related to Soluto.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
0x0000000A (0x00000076, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x82C7C028)
0x0000000A (0x0000002E, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x82C85A5B)

Right now, I left the beta testing of it.
Send an email to support. No answer. Bad signal.
Something is telling me it will leave the beta and become shareware...

Seven does that already, no graph but you have the detail of drivers slowing down your boot times + boot durations etc... in the event viewer "overview and summary" ;D and although I haven't done it yet, you can most likely generate a graph out of it with "performance monitor".

I should have added that the complete list of logs are in "Diagnostics-Performance" >>> "Operational"

>>> path is :
Event Viewer >>> Applications and Service Logs >>> Microsoft >>> Windows >>> Diagnostics-Performance >>> "Operational"

faster ;D right click "computer", and in the left pane, at the bottom, click on "performance information and tools", then, always in the left pane, on "advanced tools", and then: on "view performance details in Event log".

Logos... I can't work with such a tech-bla-bla of Windows Events...
Comparing to Soluto graphic information, Windows is incomprehensible... I can't understand and follow the logs.
