any problems with avast & the new XP 2
« on: July 22, 2004, 03:39:01 PM »
Hi guys

I am so sorry if this has been addressed already but I am on my way to work and need to sort it ASAP

I got the notification from window update on my desktop and like avast I always check to see if there are any issues with updates (especially IE ;-)
this is appears to be a major change in IE (sp2) and I read this report on a tech site

any help ???
thanks - I guess the question is is avast already ready for the changes in the "critical updates) ?

Possible Application Issues May Arise With XP SP2

Well, with Windows XP security pack 2 on the way. A few users may have
problems with applications that they run on there PC.

A few application companies are already preparing updates, so
no issues may arise, and will prevent a large amount of email or
phone calls. Among them are Symantech's Norton Antivirus,

The Vice President of Symantech (Creators of Norton Antivirus) Matthew Moynahan is quite enthusiastic
about the the SP2, and just wants to make sure no users panic which is why
updates are to be provided from the site.

Many users may be nervous about compatibility issues, but Gartner Research believes
only 3 percent of applications running under the XP OS will only have
issues. So, there really isn't any need for concern most experts
claim

It's well known that the version 4.5 of avast will be compatible with Windows XP SP2...  8)

Unfortunately even the SP2 beta-testers don't know for sure what further changes MS will make before the final release.

But I get the impression that most of the bug-fixes and other changes that MS is putting the major work into at this point relate to compatibility problems with other exisiting applications, so we'll keep our fingers collectively crossed.
