4.8 Pro Update failed...
« on: August 11, 2010, 11:07:11 PM »
Many of my 4.8 Pro users are reporting failures with updates today (red error box in lower corner).  The error is:

-----
Information about current update:
Last encountered error: The package is broken.

Total time:  45s

- Vps:  Updated
(previous version: 100811-0, updated version: 100811-1)

Server:  download825.avast.com (174.120.185.18)
Downloaded files: 5 (75.25 KB)
-----

Only thing in common is all the monthly Windows updates were applied this morning.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with 4.8 updating today after the Microsoft updates?

Have them try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

It's literally hitting all of my 200 users - I'm getting dozens of support requests this afternoon.  I have to run repair on all 200 users?  This sounds more like a corrupt file on one of the Avast update servers, and less like a problem with the Avast install.

My thoughts exactly although I haven't seen the flood of posts indicating this is a widespread problem so maybe it was discovered & rectified?

Any 'official' acknowledgement/answer from Avast themselves yet?

Package broken - seems like there are a lot of posts - so far several of my clients have called and I am seeing the same message in my own office.

Hello,

I'm sorry about the problems caused with the previous update (1101), currently release update fixes this issue so please update to 1102.
