newb with a problem
« on: April 19, 2011, 09:41:18 PM »
something happened between yesterday and today that has my internet expl screwed up. basically anything that requires a login does a "i. e. cannot connect to webpage". if i stop avast, i lose all internet, not just the login stuff. i can no longer log in to my estimating software(web based) and it wont even go to the home page. i can still log in thru crappy old aol software. i tried d/loading i.e.8 but it didn't change anything. i can't connect to my estimating software for them to remote in to try to figure it out. he seems to think the avast has latched onto i.e. and taken control in such away that it blocks anything it doesn't like. like i say, if i stop avast, i lose all intenet connection. i tried to go into msconfig and turn it off for start up and it won't let me. i uncheck it, hit apply, and it re checks it on it's own. super frustrated...

No clue about what happened? No installing anything? Downloading?

To be safe:
Click on MBAM in my signature and download free version.
Install.
Start it.
Update via it's GUI (important!).
Run Quick Scan (few minutes) and post appearing log here, pls.

If the internet explorer is not working the reset your internet explorer......|

Clean your temporary files with ccleaner....

then boot your computer in safe-mode and do a scan with malwarebytes.....

If problems still exists then go to the system restore....

Why should he do that in safe mode? That is only advisable as an temporary auxiliary solutiuon if MBAM can't be started on the normal account with admin-rights.

Cleaning the temporary Internet files is suggested prior to running a scan with MBAM, but it is not necessary at this point to run MBAM (Malwarebytes) in Safe Mode as already stated.
