"Redirect" virus
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:00:32 PM »
We were on a trip recently and my netbook picked up a virus or trojan called 'redirect' which impacted any google search.  Avast didn't catch it.  It doesn't appear to be a new one.  I wonder what happened.

My netbook caught it.  After trying for a couple of hours to find a way to get rid of it, I finally took it into the shop and they got rid of it.

No, what he means is what detected it, e.g. what security application or how did youy know it was a trojan called "redirect" ?

When I saw what was happening (no google searches worked), I did some other research and found what it was called.  No security app found it, as far as I know.  I ran Malwarebytes, spybot, and the virus scan.  Nothing turned up on any of them.

- Firefox popping up ads and or google search redirects.
Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop. - Double-click Goored.exe to run it.

Let us know how you get on.

Did "Goored.exe" solve your redirect problem miatabill?
Just curious.

I took the netbook in to Staples and let their gurus fix it.

Too much...$129.  It included a 'tune-up', which removed a couple of my programs.  I've just about got it back to where I want it.

Too much is right, personally I would have stuck at the forums for a little longer before shelling out that kind of money.

Yep we could have fixed it for free as it sounds like TDL3 rootkit infection
