« on: August 07, 2004, 02:33:12 AM »
Ok, I have Ad-Aware 6.0 and I just downloaded the lastest update for it. For the past week now I've been getting these "Possible Browser hijack attempt". (also says Internet Explorer was the location).

....so can sombody PLEASE HELP ME! Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening and hurting my PC? PLEASE?!

More details please. What is the exact message you get? Does it mention a location, registry entry, file or something like that which is the possible hijacker?

By your hijacker log, probably is only the default search of Microsoft... Not to worry about. But, to be sure, better is Quarantine all itens into Ad-aware before excluding them.
Next, test your browser for some days and see if you can permanently delete them or you need to restore them back...  8)

Update ad-aware, run it (select all folders and not the quick scan), when it finish select 'Next' and click the items on the window. Click on button Quarentine. After this, if you continue you will automatically delete the items (clean your system).

In addition to what Technical advised you, you may want to post the log of HijackThis here so we can check what that is reporting about this. It is probably nothing to worry about. But better check twice than sorry later on  :D

playerX,
Here are the settings you need to make ad-aware run at top efficensy:

Please print these instructions to make it easier to follow during set-up and use.

About Ad-Aware 6
Ad-Aware 6 is a powerful tool that is used to detect and give the user the ability to quarantine and safely remove the offending objects that are targeted.

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen to access the preferences/setting window.
Click the "Scanning" button.
Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
Click the "Tweaks" button.
Under "Scanning Engine", select the following:
"Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile" and "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
"Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.
Once you have it properly set up, then run it (Always update first).
After it's finished doing a scan, quaratine all items foud. Use your system for a few days to make sure that the quaratined items don't affect your system. If they do, you;ll have to restore them. If your system is working fine, delete the quarantined items.
