Froyo has just been released to v.2.2 for the US market of Galaxy S phones has just been released (with it's share of problems), but once upgraded successfully, results have been reported as being good, especially in the areas of being much faster, GPS fix, Bluetooth, etc.

If you have a successful upgrade, you will see the following on your phone:

firmware 2.2
baseband version I897UCKB1
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build number FROYO.UCKB1

There is a thread on another forum discussing problems regarding the upgrades and how to resolve the issues.  For example, you cannot do the upgrade if you have IE9 installed and need to temporarily uninstall IE9 until this is resolved.  If you have a rooted phone, you need to unroot it temporarily to do the upgrade.

Those who had earlier versions of Froyo need to uninstall prior versions since this is a new build called Kies Mini, and anyone who installed it prior to the roll-out of March 2011 will also need to uninstall and reinstall according to the vendor.  They also recommend making a back up of everything on your phone since many users have lost data during the upgrade.  >:(

The forum discussing this problem http://forum.androidcentral.com/t-captivate/62944-official-froyo-update-instructions-samsung-captivate-its-here-20.html starts with the non-US version.  But if you read the thread, you can see a trend of the problems and how to resolve some issues.

... about Apple... I know, and I'm dealing with that atm, an awful bug following the latest iOs update + censorship on their forums, ie they delete what they don't like to read, and when in your next post you protest against such practices, they delete it too. They send you a mail like that each time:

Quote
Dear ****,

Apple removed your post on Apple Discussions titled **** because it contained the following:

    * Speculation or Rumors

    * Discussion of Apple Policies, Procedures or Decisions

We are including a copy of your post at the end of this email for your reference.
