side-by-side configuration

i just installed the free version of avasti.  I have a 64 bit windows 7 system. 

when
i click on the avasti icon,
i get the error message
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect"
What can I do?

Yes you should reboot after instaling avast.

If you have troubles,it may help,but i never had to restart computer for completing of installation.

It is absolutely necessary to reboot once you install avast, I believe it asks as part of the installation process. I can't remember as it is over 10 months since I installed it.

I would say you should reboot after installing any security application.
