Avast - Settings - Exclusions
« on: November 10, 2010, 03:36:58 PM »
In the settings, the option of exclusions ...
In education, he says that will be applied only in the operations manual and scheduled.
How to do that the exclusion is also recognized for the automatic verification?
Or I got it wrong!

EXCLUSIONS
Enter the paths to be excluded from scanning. Note: exclusions specified here will apply only to on-demand scans (manual and scheduled).

=============================================================================

There are two sets of exclusions, one for the on-demand scans and that is the one that you have found.

However, for the resident on-access scanner to check a file before it is run has a different exclusion:
File System Shield, Expert Settings, Exclusions, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Folder_Name\File_Name.exe
That will stop the File System Shield scanning that file.

That said you should never scan a file without being 100% sure it isn't infected, and if it isn't then it should be reported to avast so that it can be corrected.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here the URL in the Address bar of the VT results page. You can't do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive. Now exclude that folder in the File System Shield, Expert Settings, Exclusions, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect\*
That will stop the File System Shield scanning any file you put in that folder.

If only GData and avast detect it - GData uses avast as one of its two scanners so counts as 1 detection and almost certainly an FP.
Send the sample to avast as a False Positive:
Open the chest and right click on the file and select 'Submit to virus lab...' complete the form and submit, the file will be uploaded during the next update.
