Avast! 4 Home and Windows 2003
« on: August 12, 2004, 10:40:19 PM »
I know it sounds incredible, but ...
I am using Windows 2003 Srv Ent 180-days trial at my home (learning before MCP exam) and looking for freeware antivirus. Avast is free for home users (just like me although using Win2k3) and I though I could install Avast but ... I cannot do that because of server version of my software system. Is there any trick to install it and dont be a pirat using cracked software which is no prob?

Best regards,
SlyT

No there is not. You need a server av. And besides, if you can afford a expensive server os like 2k3 you can also afford a good av software.

Ooopsss, I misread something. Didn't saw you use the trial of 2k3. Does this proove I am human?  :D
Anyway, you should have known this. Read before download. It is mentioned at the Avast website.

You could use ClamAV/WinClam, which runs on W2k3,
but it has no On-Access-Scanner(AV-Shield/Guard), only on-Demand (Email/outlook-plugin is supposed to be coming soon..)

Thx for fast reply,
ClamAV is better than nothing, so ... On the other way I think it is a little unfair no to install avast home on honestly speakin' home computer. I'll try ClamAV (lack On-Access-Scaner is a big disadvantage these times) and we will see ...

It's not that it's unfair not to let you install and use the Home edition on your Win2k3 server edition (even if your use of win2k3 is for personal use). avast! 4 Home simply won't work on the win2k3 OS.

That is why there is a server edition of avast.
