Keriver 1 click restore free
« on: November 27, 2010, 02:59:18 AM »
Hi, just another free disk imaging program for FREE. :D Will create full, incremental,or differential images.
It installs a boot menu so no bootable media is needed.
I believe it does not support 64bit os yet though.

Well, I have it installed on an old XP. The program works just fine (creates and restores images).

I installed it on my vista home premium desktop pc. The program creates an image but will not restore,so no go on this pc. :-[the results may vary.
I still like to test new programs though.

Well... Are you sure?
If so, I'll remove it from my computer as it will be only taking space...

I've got a contact with Keriver support.
I'll test it on VMware first.

Hi,
You say the program cannot restore on your vista home premium desktop pc.
Could you please tell me more details about this problem?

Thanks,
River

Hi River, thank you for your support. :)
When I boot to recovery and try a restore I get an error message:
.\partition.cpp(1692)-fle_clear_part_entry.memcmp(&(dest_part->on_image.raw_part_entry),dest_part->part_entry,sizeof0)!=0

I hope I copied that correctly.
The pc is an Acer Aspire AM5641 running vista home premium 32bit. 3 internal hdd, no raid setup.
When I installed 1 click I let the setup auto choose the recovery console.
Hope this helps,Tim

Can you defrag?

Does defragging increase the snapshot space?

Can you defrag?
Yes, you can. It's a backup tool. The snapshots are files.

Does defragging increase the snapshot space?
It shouldn't, as the snapshot does not take the free/blank space and it is regardless of files fragmentation.

Hi, actually it probably will if you do incremental or differential images. That's been my experience.

Well... I was not brave enough to test restoration.
My first impressions on Keriver are:
Pros
1. Ability to choose where to save the snapshots. Even to move them anytime.
2. Works on background.
3. Restore files needed to boot/recover (security and credibility). Although, it's mandatory and not by user control.
4. Three types of backup (feature missed on Macrium Free): full, incremental and differential.

Cons
1. The "always restore" MBR loader could be a pain. I know it is for security. But it could have a rescue CD for the ones who want to have control of MBR or even use another application that needs it, like Acronis or Comodo Time Machine.
2. The icon on system tray could really have a better graphic...
3. The scheduling is not customizable, i.e., the backups are always differential (not full or incremental). You can only rename the task, you can't even change the scheduling...
4. There isn't a priority control, i.e., backup could take much more resources while running without user control. Macrium Reflect has this feature.
