Avast 5.0.677 and Error Code 80046300
« on: December 07, 2010, 07:50:23 PM »
I have scoured the internet but still cannot find a viable solution to this problem I have with my wife's pc. She is running a licensed copy of WinXP SP2 with Outlook 2003 and Avast 5.0.677. Lately while in her Outlook account she keeps receiving the following message:

"Cannot scan the message body. Error code 80046300. The AAVM subsystem is not properly initialized. Aavmcheckfile failed"

I have seen people's comments about checking to make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook, wich it isn't. Also have seen where it suggest to either turn off Avast mail scanner (which doesn't sound advisable) and to completetly uninstall and then reinstall Avast. Has anyone successfully fixed this issue and if so would you please share that fix with us? Thanks so much!

P.S. would installing WinXP SP3 help me or hurt me?

Welcome to the forums, axe05   :)

What antivirus was previously used and how was it removed?

This pc is about two years old and came with a trial of McAfee probably, I don't remember. That was removed from day one and Avast was installed. this problem didn't show up until about 2 days ago and we haven't installed any new software or hardware in quite some time.
