avast pro update leads to crash! who can help?
« on: January 03, 2011, 02:30:34 PM »
Hey everyone,

yesterday I updated my avast pro (running on windows vista). it's generally doing this automatically, but as i'm now on the road, i had to do it manually. anyways, following the update, everything shut down. after several attempts (and strange booting record: failure in file 9) i managed to get the system running again. however, i noticed the following changes: avast has turned off almost all real time shields and i can't get them back on. the help button has stopped functioning. i have no system restore point which is really weird as i used to have this. and microsoft word is not running anymore. anybody knows how to get the system back on track? all updates on avast pro have stopped working. should i reinstall the whole thing? how to do this? I ran a virus scan this morning and nothing came up (version 5.0.864, 110102-0, release date 02-01-2011)

thanks for all replies!

You posted in the wrong section...
Uninstall current version using this http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility You will see instructions on how to use it on that page.
Download Avast and reinstall:
Free AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe
