Incompatability with new UPS v 14.0.15
« on: January 06, 2011, 06:08:12 PM »
I can't seem to open UPS since I loaded the new version 14.0.15 yesterday.  UPS tells me it is a known problem with Avast.  I've run free Avast for a while now (with automatic updates).  I need to run my UPS for our company - what can be done?   I've tried temporarily diableing Avast while trying to open UPS & no luck

- HELP!!!!

What version of avast are you using, please include full build no (e.g. 5.1.864) ?
What operating system ?

What errors are you getting ?

What known error from your UPS ?

Are we talking Uninterruptable Power Supply or United Parcels Services here.
If the first what make and when did this problem start to happen, after an avast update or after a UPS software update ?

well I just uninstalled Avast so I could ship (so obviously I meant UPS Worldship - should have said that in the 1st place, sorry) :'(

I was using free avast and I think it was 5.1.864.  I use Windows XP

I was not getting any error messages AT ALL - when I clicked the UPS icon, absolutley nothing happened.  When I called UPS tech support, they told me this was a known problem, that avast was blocking the executables & I should go into avast & list several exceptions (exclusions) and that should (hopefully) fix the probem.  It didn't.  Also, turning off Avast while trying to open UPS also did not seem to help.

The problems started yesterday afternoon (1/5) - immediately after I upgraded my UPS Worldship to the mandatory software for the 2011 rates.  NOTE - I had also been on the 14.x UPS Worldship beta test for the past few months, with no incompatability issues during that time.

Other than this, I have had no problems with avast & am sorry that I had to uninstall it & now have to find another AV program

I'm not aware of any "known problems" with UPS - but I might suggest trying version 5.1.874.

Thanks for the answers so far -

What I would like to know is, if anyone else has loaded the new 14.0.15 UPS Worldship and if they have experienced any problems (or not).  And if not, which Avast FREE version are you running?

THANKS!

I had the same problem!

Avast is not compatiable with Worldship. The 1st question UPS tech dept asked me was if I had Avast. I had Avast remote into my computer and mess with it for more than 5 hours over 2 days and the end result was to unistall Avast. I had UPS remote in and everything with their program was running fine. After unistalling UPS ran perfect. Get a different program, that's what I did!!!! Avast claims they no nothing about it but i beleive they have had enough calls to know.

Thanks, gaec, for your input.

It just surprised me that I've used UPS alsmost every day since I installed Avast about a year ago, and there had been no other apperant issues.  The the day I install the mandatory price increase - poof!

I had recently installed some beta test UPS software (several times in fact - they kept sending new disks with minute upgrades/tweaks) - but there were no issues until I installed the official final upgrade to 14.0.15.

Oh well, I guess everything can't be compatible with everything.  But you'd think Avast would want to be compatible with such a big thing as UPS Worldship.

I think that eventually you will find that there is something not quite right with that UPS program.
Soon, they will have you upgrading that program again.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi guys,

I'd like to know if the 5.1.874 solves this problem or not... could anyone who tried it report back?

Thanks

Was the incompatibility something that was fixed in 5.1.874?  Last week I installed Avast Pro on two machines that had Worldship and the UPS software (Version 12.1.17) would no longer launch once installed.  The only thing I could do was uninstall Avast.

Yes that appears to be something that was fixed as was reported by one of the Avast Team in the post above yours.

We have "moved on" - We use Comcast as our internet provider & found out we can get a free version of Norton Antivirus, so we have loaded that, with no apparent issues with UPS Worldship, or anything else.

Thanks for everyone's input.  I will still follow this thread, since I am curious if it now works for anyone else who had the issue with incompatability.

:)

Running paid Avast version 5.1.864 with UPS WorldShip version 14.0.15. Cannot get it to work at all. Tried to add program to exclusions, tried to turn off Avast, nothing happens. When I attempt to update Avast to check for a new version, it says I've got the most up to date one. Any help with this? I would really hate to have to uninstall Avast since it helps us against the email threats we receive daily.
