1. My laptop has become infested with a persistent nagging ad to buy REGISTRY DEFENDER, because it has found over a hundred dangerous threats. There is no way to respond other than to give in and buy the software or use the Task Manager to cancel Internet Explorer totally, including anything else running.
2. I also have repeating ads for "Channelreports.com", "Redeemourprize.com" and other similar web pages styled ads. As with REGISTRY DEFENDER, the user has limited options to remove the ad and even if successful, it is promptly replaced by another and another... These "web pages" appear when a desirable site is called, but redirected by the malicious virus.
3. I have run Avast!, SuperAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware, Registry Mechanic, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Microsoft Security Essentials (or similar name), and I still have the problem. I have run all of the above in normal Windows XP Pro mode, as well as Safe Mode. The only browser installed is Internet Explorer 8.
4. I installed Online-Armor Firewall, although after I discovered the problem.
