whenever I try to update the engine or virus definitions or update the program there is an error message stating that the package is broken, any ideas what this means? I recently had to insert the windows disc so that I can run the repair because I had a corrupt system hive file. I am running the free version on windows vista home premium 32 bit. Thanks!

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You may need to reboot after the repair.

hi thanks for replying, it says "error processing packages, please use full update"

does this mean that I have to uninstall and then reinstall it?
