how to proceed after a virus is detected

As Avast runs and finds a virus an alarm sounds and the program stops. Avast takes a while to run and if you are not at the computer it will just sit idle until you tell it to do something with the virus. Is there a way to continue the virus scan after a detection automatically?

Only in Pro version. In Home you have to wait until first is detected and then you can check the option to use the same action for all that will be detected later.

Jeff,

The reason Avast stops the scan is to prevent any further damage if "infection" has begun to spread.

This is the safest way to handle a possible infection.
Avast also allows you time to look at the file and determine if you want to delete it or not.

You can set the Standard Shield to Perform "silent" action if you wish, but then you would not know "when or what" action Avast was taking.  Not a good idea.
