Help with update to Avast Free 6.0.1000
« on: March 04, 2011, 02:45:50 AM »
I just updated Avast to 6.0.1000 on my laptop.

I don't remember the previous version of Avast I was using... it was probably some version of 5.x but it could have been an earlier version.

With the previous version of Avast everything was working fine but I got tired of the constant reminders to update/upgrade.

Now, I have a problem that started immediately after installing Avast 6.0.1000:

The browser fails to connect even for safe/popular sites like http://google.com or http://forum.avast.com.

I have tried with my (Windows) firewall turned on or off and I still cannot connect.

If I turn off Avast Web-Shield, everything seems to work fine and I can connect with my browser perfectly.

How do I configure Avast to use Web-Shield but to allow regular browsing ?

What version of Windows are you using?

What other security software is now or has ever been installed on the machine?

Something is blocking AvastSvc.exe from having access to the internet.

With Avast Webshield enabled, can you visit HTTPS: sites?  Try https://www.google.com.
