Just curious as to what version of Avast you were using?

Download Malwarebytes Free from here and run it. Make sure that you update it to the most recent definitions.

Please post the results of the scan.

Please follow the instructions here regarding other logs that may be required. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Very interesting that a virus uninstalled Avast.

I have to leave here for a while. Someone should pick up on this.

Will you please provide the following information?
1. What version of Avast are you using? free, pro, AIS. Version 6.0.1000?
2. What other security software do you have installed now and in the past? Firewall, previous antivirus, etc.
3. Have you checked add/remove programs or programs and features in control panel to see if Avast is there?

Thanks

OK. I assume that Avast was working correctly until you were infected by this virus? And that you have fully uninstalled the other security software that you listed above?

In the meantime please download the Avast free installer from here http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?part=dl-85737&subj=dl&tag=button.

Download and run the Avast uninstall utility from here http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and run it for each version 4, 5, and 6. Please do this before trying to reinstall Avast.

In fact, it would probably be best to download and run the uninstall utility for each security product that you listed.
Here is a blog that has each uninstaller listed http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/. You could also visit each software developers website and obtain it from there.

You may want to do this downloading from a computer that is protected.

Has Malwarebytes come up with anything yet?

I'm wondering what was your experience with this virus? When did it happen? There were issues with a definition update yesterday that were creating false positives. It was fixed on the next update. But that has nothing to do with the disappearance of Avast. Is your computer running normal otherwise?

It happened a little earlier than that for me. Will you please keep us updated on whether or not you are able to get Avast to install?

Thanks

hmm i worried maybe that virus also deleting some windows component that important for installing avast (part of visualbasic maybe :P, like .dll or .ocx files) so try to open command prompt and run as administrator first (if win vista or win 7 in start menu search for cmd and right click "run as administrator") and then type sfc /scannow
