Web Shield avast 6.0.1044 and FF 4.0 - surfing blocked
« on: April 13, 2011, 07:05:39 PM »
win 7 64bit, windows firewall, Web Shield avast 6.0.1044 and FF 4.0

It seems I again have to shut down the web shield to start browsing on boot-up.  Once I access any site I can turn the web shield back on with no further problems even if I shut FF down and restart it, clear the cache, etc.

Anyone else having this problem?

No other AV software installed?

What was installed prior to Avast 6.0.1044?

If Firefox is enabled at Windows Startup then you may want to try

Right click on "Avast orange ball"------Click on "Open avast! user interface"-------Click on "Settings"-------Click on "Troubleshooting"-----Click "Load avast! services only after loading other system services"

or remove Firefox from the list of "startup programs".

FF will most probably not be a startup program.
I think you misread the post.

I think what he means is this: after booting the PC when he starts FF for the first time, it will not load webpages.
He then stops WS and FF loads any page. He then reenables WS. After this has been done once after booting, everything is okay until next boot.

Thanks for replies.  Zyndstoff, you are correct.  I had the same problem with Avast 5+ and FF 3+.  This problem has been posted by others previously and I wonder if others also experience this.

I use nothing else but avast and win firewall, have cleared all dns caches, reset winsock, etc., and the problem continues.

It's a minor aggravation but possibly needs further developer attention, or I'm missing something.

I believe you are missing something.

Go to Avast GUI, settings (upper right corner), troubleshooting, and enable (mark the box) the option "Load Avast services only after...".

Reboot.

Does this help?

Thanks.

Anyway, what I would propose is to download Avast 6.0.1044 (click on Free in my signature) and install it. No uninstalling of current version needed.

And, just to be sure: Download Malwarebytes Antimalware (MBAM in my sig), install it, start it, update it's defs via the MBAM GUI and run a quick-scan, post the log that automatically appears. I always suspect something bad when things don't run as they should. Just a precautionary measure.

Thanks for your help.  Delaying the start of the avast service solved my problem.

What is the information gain with this post for the OP? That your system setup / configuration / software load is different to his... not very surprising.
