We did a fresh install of XP Home followed by an install of XP SP2. When we attempt to install the latest downloaded version of Avast Home, setupeng crashes with an exception 0xC0000005 in avast.setup.

Where to go from here?

TIA

Welcome... right now I'm trying to search for your error in the board.
I'm not sure but maybe this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=793

Can you follow this thread?

Technical,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had read that thread before posting but I'm not sure if it helps.

Please try to run the setup program with '/savelog path' parameter from the command line. Examine the log by yourself, or post it here. Clean the system using avclear4 before the tries.

For example:
setupeng.exe /savelog c:\install.log

Apologies to all.

It turns out the system date on the pc was set to the year 2099!

Fixing the date fixed the problem.

Mahalo.
