ADNM Install - MSDE Hangs at SqlRun16.msi

Trying to perform a new installation of ADNM on a Server 2003. This is the second time I am trying to run the installation of ADNM and it stuck at SqlRun16.msi.

Please advise us what to do?

Are you trying to install ADNM with MSDE?

Maybe you could install SQL Express 2005 and use the ADNM standalone installer instead?

Just download and install SQL express 2005 (2008 should work as well), create a database called Avast and specify a password (document it in case you need it later).

Then, during the avast ADNM installation, just specify the sql instance you created earlier "servername\avast" and the password that you created.  It should work fine.

If not, let us know any errors that you get, any problems in the event viewer, and we'll help you further.

Yes I was trying to install ADNM with MSDE.

Ok..I installed sql 2005 express but for some reason adnm is not seeing the server. the adnm installation, and mirror went through fine, but its not seeing the server. any ideas?
i installed 2005 with default values and mixed authentication.

Did you create an instance for Avast when you installed Sql?

It would have been better to specify a password, because at least know it for future reference.

You can try deleting the database in the AMS tools, then create another one using the same tool.

Then, verify it using the AMS "check database" tool.

Also, verify that the "Avast Management Server" Service is running (and that it doesn't stop shortly after you start it), and if it's not running, check the event log for a cause.

Can i remove the sql installation and install back without affecting the adnm installation? or do i have to remove both?

I know it's old, but ADNM hasn't changed much over the years.

You can remove the SQL installation and install it back, provided that you name it the same thing, I don't know if you can change what avast thinks the server and instance is called.

You should also check the installation guide that I started (and others finished).  It was originally for SBS 2008, but the same principles apply to 2003.

Just giving an update:

I installed SQL Express 2008 using this guide

I then install adnm which went through fine. however when i tried to login the adnm console, it would not go through (Administrator\admin)

I checked the AMS Maintenance tool. Database connection was OK.

But the AMS Service is stopping for some reason.

Event Viewer shows:
The avast! Management Server service terminated with the following error:

Any ideas?

Just letting you know the problem was resolved.

The problem existed with the database. I had to make sure during the sql installation i created the instance (avast), and made sure the database was created properly. or else the ams service will not start and you will not be able to log into the adnm console.
