ah ok success, thank you Essexboy and David.  I rebooted and now Avast is loading, MBAM autoloads as well.    Seems like it is running smoothly, thanks again. 

btw is it possible or wise to uninstall the recovery console?  I just ask because I am more familiar with using safe mode, not that I hope to have any need for either anytime soon.

No keep the recovery console - it may come in handy one day

Run for a day or so and when you are happy I will remove my tools
