MBR rootkit - now BSOD
« on: June 24, 2011, 04:49:35 PM »
I just downloaded the free edition of Avast.  This was found MBR: \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0, Threat:Rootkit: hidden boot-sector  So I let Avast delete it, then it wanted to reboot and run a scan.  Upon reboot I got a blue screen and cannot get into any form of windows at all.  I can access the recovery and that's it.  What do I do?  This is my laptop for work, I can't afford to loose all the info on it.  Please help!!!

I ran fixmbr in recovery mode and Windows was finally able to boot.  Avast found and removed a few infected files, and everything appears to be ok now.
