Generally speaking, that's normal. The distribution cycle can (and should) take some time. The problem is when the program updates cycle is several months. In such case, a user is using an "old" version, and the program update tray notification has not been seen for the last, say, 3 program releases. For the record, this *is* happening and it is not an assumption.
Good to know, this was the first time I'd noticed it happen, and I honestly don't know how long it had gone before I noticed. Sorry. ^_^;

When you updated the program the previous time?

Here is the release history, with program versions and dates: http://www.avast.com/release-history.

If you were using 6.0.1203 before the latest recent program update, then there was no delay really. If you were using an older version than 1203, then you are part of those users "suffering" the longer delays.

Like I said, I don't actually know what it was before I updated it. Is there a way to find it in a log?
EDIT: Found the log, it was 1203 previously. So, that's obviously not what happened in my case.
Sorry for the confusion.
