It works just fine for me, as does the standard URL to messenger.yahoo.com. But it isn't us with the problem.

Well there could be technical difficulties, which could knock it out, but as essexboy asks your firewall (?) may also have had an impact also.

i only use windows built in firewall

OK, that provides ZERO outbound checking/protection so it shouldn't imped the connection to yahoo messenger.
