Is this a false positive ?
« on: September 10, 2011, 07:31:54 PM »
Hi, Actually a 2 part question. Thanks in advance for any assistance. JIM
1- How do I access info from results so I can copy + paste instead of having to type out what I'm trying to say. Is the log file located on my c drive somewhere? It seems I can only see the results from within the avast program. No copy + paste ability. In this case I used print screen to save + share the info. And my camera to save what occured.

2- the problem : Last scan showed  A trojan /was removed/ suggested boot time scan/done,
In boot time scan /Show a pup win32 pup virus in common files /wise installation/WIS2C3738C956FA410ABCB570C5D2380_4_1_2318.MSI
I found the file on the computer right clicked and scanned with avast/ shows no threat found. Does that mean it's clean ?
The scan results show error file was not removed. SEE PICTURES.
I will post print screen files to show what I mean. Hope this works.
Did a HJT scan /anylized showed no threat.
 Here is HJT Log:

One more question, The easiest thing would be to just delete that file.
 If not needed.
I tried to google it and got no results, how do I tell if it's a neccessary file + what it installs ?

 ???

The file in question is defined as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Programme).  These are programmes that can be used for good or bad and Avast has no way of knowing which use it is being put to.

Looking at the screenshots it appears to be part of a theme programme, if you are happy with that programme then you can ignore the detection

However, if you use the PUP detection settings you will get these alerts.  I personally never use the PUP setting  ;D

I was going to say...

I once ran an Avast boot scan that picked up MIRC (internet chat software) as a pup. If you don't quite know what you're doing, the pup setting might cause needless alarm as well as  unnecessarily delete legitimate software.

Thanks for the replies / Learned early on not to delete things before knowing what they are.
Thus me asking HOW DO I TELL WHAT THEY ARE .
Also still trying to find out where the log files are stored on my computer ?
 Don't see anything in c/program files/ alwil software /avast 5
