Error on auto update
« on: November 01, 2004, 04:21:54 PM »
I'm a very satisfied Home Edition customer and haven't had to really look at the nuts and bolts of the application.  During the last few days I've recieved an error while trying to perform automatic updates.  Below is the error log.  Any help would be appreciated.

Error 274D = 10061 Perhaps a search on this board for that number brings you something.

Have you already tried to update without your firewall enabled?

 :)
Problem solved.  I think there was something going on with Zone Alarm, since my Pro trial license expired and reverted to regular ZA.  Anyway, a couple of reboots and I'm back in business.  Thanks for the suggestions!

It always gives me a good feeling when I hear a problem is solved.

Take care. :D

I too have just started getting this error.  I have used Avast Home for over 2 years and am in love with it.  Nothing on my end has changed, but all of a sudden I started getting this error.  I have a firewall with my Dell Trumobile wireless router, but have never had a problem until a couple days ago.

Anyone else know what's up?  I have uninstalled, restart, delete out of registry, restart, reinstall, restart and it still gives this error.  After the reinstall, it asked me if I wanted to download the updates and it downloaded a few things and installed them....then it states

Server download10.avast.com (207.44,182.35:80) is down.

 - the server is inaccessible because of a network error or maintenance.
 - your HTTP proxy settings are incorrect.
 - your network settings are incorrect.
 - your firewall isn't set to full internet access for program "avast*.setup"

Is there a way to manually update?

Fessy, welcome to forums. Why have you wait that long to be here?  8)

Have you tried to disable the firewall to see if avast can update?
Did you try manual updates? Just right click the icon and choose 'Update'.
Are you using version 4.1 or 4.5 Beta?

thanks for the welcome!  i haven't disabled the firewall because my desktop updated fine.  Thinking it maybe something with the wireless, I used cat5 to plug my laptop in to try but no go.  I tried to manual update but no go.  I am using build 4.1.418

to be honest, i don't even know how to disable the firewall on this dell truemobile 2300 wireless router.  I know that I have been able to download and install the updates in the very near past.

Ok.....i have surpassed my router and have my laptop connected directly to my cable modem.  When I try to manually update, it tries to download servers.def then states it can not connect to the server.  That is basically what is happening when my laptop is plugged into my router as well.  My desktop can do this fine while plugged into the router and since my laptop is plugged directly to the cable modem right now, it isn't a network issue.

do you know if there are any issues with Dell Inspiron 9100?  I have already uninstalled/reboot/istall/reboot.  Like I said before, this just started happening out of the blue a couple weeks ago.

Can you try, at the same time, if another computer can connect and update?
I think 'repairing' the installation won't solve the problem as you made a clean installation few moments ago...
Do you have XP internal firewall well configurated?
