HELP with AOL
« on: February 28, 2005, 05:08:49 PM »
Help ! I used to use AVG anti-virus but when I had the shop at home virus I had to remove this to install Avast to remove the trojan.

I am using Windows XP and since installing Avast I can't access AOL, it hangs on the sign in screen saying program not responding. Internet Explorer is not working either. I have tried to remove them and re-install but neither work.

Funny thing is I can still access the net through Mozilla Firefox and MSN messenger still works.

Any ideas please (in simple terms)

Thanks

What version AOL are you using? I'm going to guess you're using dial up?

How about if you terminate Avasts! webshield??

The webshield does not/will not work with AOL - but there is a work around in that Waol.exe etc. has been excluded from the webshiled. I'm guessing you have an AOL procees running that has not be excluded from the webshield.

The webshield will work with firefox and IE however, even if your signed on via AOL - - once you can find what your conflict is there.

Do you have webshield running? if so try terminating it.

How about the internet mail scanner - try terminating it as well.

If AOL and IE still don't work - It's my opinion that it has nothing to do with Avast!
